Zach Ruscoe

Zach Ruscoe

Zach Ruscoe is a high school senior at International Connections Academy (iNaCA). He lives in North Carolina with his family. Zach enjoys learning in a personalized learning environment with supportive teachers. His mother, Minta, shares more about his experience at iNaCA below.

“Zach was homeschooled by me until fifth grade. It became very apparent to me, however, that I was in way over my head and needed help to give him the best education possible, so I enrolled him into Ohio Connections Academy (OCA) for sixth grade. His father and I have always thought that this was a better option than attending a bricks-and-mortar school, where there seems to be a lot of time wasted and not enough opportunities to expand on studies other than the norm,” Minta explains.

After his father accepted a new job, Zach and his family relocated to North Carolina. Since there were no online public schools available in North Carolina at the time, Minta did some research and discovered iNaCA’s online private school program. Zach enrolled in iNaCA for tenth grade—and the school has proven to be a great fit for him. Minta says, “At iNaCA, Zach is able to work at his own pace. If he needs extra time to really grasp a concept, he can take that time. Similarly, if something is easy for him, he can spend less time on it. There are also so many honor and AP courses available for Zach, and the teachers have just been amazing. I’ve always told him to communicate with the teachers when he struggles with something and they have always helped him out and taken their time in doing it. He never feels like he’s rushed or distracted and I really feel this has worked so much better than any other schooling options that I have researched. Zach is also very self-motivated, so I rarely need to push him to complete his work or do his best. I also feel that sleep is very important for teenagers, and at iNaCA, he is able to get plenty of rest since he doesn’t have to be up very early.”

Zach greatly appreciates that his schoolwork is tailored to fit his learning style and needs. “What I like most about iNaCA is how everything is so focused and structured on the students. I can do schoolwork at time that works best for me, take a break when I need to do so, and move at my own pace. The teachers, courses, and real-time online lessons are so focused on my needs as a student, and I genuinely feel like the teachers care about me and greatly desire for me to succeed. This really helps to encourage me, and makes me push myself further in order to do the best I can,” he shares.

Zach’s favorite subjects are history and science. He is a member of iNaCA’s English, science, and social studies National Honor Society, as well as the school’s general National Honor Society. Zach enjoys staying up-to-date with current events and learning about historical events that had an impact on the world today. In the future, Zach plans to attend college and possibly pursue a career in politics or science.

Outside of school, Zach keeps busy with many activities, including reading, spending time with friends, playing basketball, and riding and working on his dirt bike.
