Amber Rogers

Amber Rogers

Ms. Rogers is a high school math and science teacher at International Connections Academy (iNaCA). She started her teaching career in 2001 and joined iNaCA in 2015. Ms. Rogers holds a bachelor’s degree from Adrian College and a master’s degree from Western Governor’s University. Ms. Rogers shares her story below.

“When I went to college, I wasn’t 100 percent sure what I wanted to study until I tutored. I loved tutoring at the college, helping students to understand difficult and confusing concepts. I then decided to become a teacher and had to choose either grades K–6 or 6–12. I chose 6–12 so I could focus on my areas of interest, science, and math. At that point, I earned my bachelor’s degree with endorsements in both 6–12 science and math.

My first teaching position was at the high school I graduated from, where I taught a variety of science courses, including biology, environmental science, physical science, and physics. It was a great experience and I worked with some amazingly talented colleagues! As I progressed in my career, the idea of a virtual education intrigued me enough that I decided to earn my master’s degree completely online. I became hooked on virtual education and I sought my first virtual teacher position. For four years, I was an online math teacher, and then a math interventionist. I loved being able to teach students who may not have flourished in a regular classroom due to anxiety, health issues, training schedules, or even family issues. They could learn when they were able to and still receive an amazing and challenging curriculum.

Then, the opportunity to teach at iNaCA arose and I was so excited to apply. I had heard how amazingly talented the students are at iNaCA, and how the small teaching staff support each other and strive to provide a quality education to their students. I love the students at iNaCA—whether they are athletically, academically, or artistically talented, we have the best students!

INaCA offers a rigorous, challenging curriculum that prepares students for their future studies. The ability to teach every student, no matter the challenges that they may face in a regular school setting, are not issues in a virtual school.”
