Ms. Sosa is a middle school language arts teacher at International Connections Academy (iNaCA). She started her teaching career more than a decade ago and joined iNaCA in 2016. Prior to teaching at iNaCA, Ms. Sosa was a middle school language arts and reading teacher at Florida Virtual School (FLVS) Full-Time for six years. She was also a Literacy Coach in Florida for 3 years. She holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Central Florida, and a master's degree in reading education from Nova Southeastern University. Ms. Sosa shares her story below:
"Being a teacher is truly a labor of love. As I support students in developing their reading and writing skills, I'm learning right along with them. It's important for students to feel supported as they strive to achieve their academic goals. I believe teachers should be there to encourage, challenge, and celebrate their students' success.
There are so many benefits to online schooling. As a virtual teacher, I can really get to know my students on an individual basis. Forming those connections is so critical to ensuring student success. In addition, students are able to work at their own pace as they complete their lessons. The flexibility of their schedule allows students to feel more confident and empowered. If they need remediation, I provide the extra support. If they need enrichment, I challenge their thinking!
I would tell a prospective parent that we are a team: student, parent, and teacher. Together, we provide the foundations for student success at iNaCA. Communication is key to ensuring that students are learning in a virtual setting."
When Ms. Sosa is not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her family at the beach on a cruise or tubing down a river!
Students and teachers can connect by phone or webmail to open up those lines of communication and build connections with one another.
